What She Wanted
Celebrated for the exquisite eye she brings to her clients’ interiors, Susan Ferrier also loves extending her personal style throughout her own home. When it came time to create the dramatic, custom closet she had always wanted, Susan turned to California Closets to marry her needs for exceptional form and function. Beyond illustrating sophistication and fine detail, the space would need to masterfully organize, and showcase, Susan’s well-curated collections of clothes, jewelry and of course, shoes!
How we did it
Susan worked closely and collaboratively with California Closets Atlanta Business Development Director, Calais McGuinness. As a designer, Susan appreciated how California Closets' product offering allowed her to apply many of her own design principles to create the clean, elegant and furnished space she envisioned. A rich contrast of finishes paired with luxurious details such as a leather-wrapped island, as well as hardware, antique mirrors, decorative lighting and drapery sourced by Susan herself, all helped to enrich the design.
Calais’ thoughtful design intentionally included several horizontal lines to streamline the space. She also ensured that all of the drawers were the same size and height, and that the countertop heights and lines were specifically calculated. Distinct areas also supported a variety of activities—from working and applying makeup, to storing luggage and doing laundry. Finally, Calais incorporated lighting detail to give Susan greater visibility and create impact.
There are so many elements to this design that came out beautifully in the final product—elements that seemed so minimal in the original application, but made a huge impact in the end.
