A Dream Apartment Walk-In for Homepolish Designer Julia Haney Montanez
client: Julia Haney Montanez
location:
New York City, NY
design consultant:
Stacy Skolsky
What They Wanted
Space is priceless when it comes to apartment living and Homepolish designer, Julia Haney Montanez understands this well. In addition to helping her clients creatively overcome similar space constraints, she resolved to transform an underutilized, 14-foot-long empty space in her Chelsea studio into a walk-in closet that would be equal parts function and glamour.
Julia enlisted the expertise of California Closets New York design consultant, Stacy Skolsky to create boudoir-style-inspired closet optimized for storage, display for her collections and books, but even importantly, double as a chic dressing room highlighting her own personal style.
As a designer, it was important to me to have some creative liberty and put my stamp on the look and feel of the space.
How we did it
Stacy addressed the most appropriate areas for hanging first, taking into account both the narrow dimensions and the beautiful exposed brick wall that she wanted to frame the design. With high ceilings, the tight space gave Stacy vertical room to address Julia’s shelving and drawer needs.
For the vanity, Julia brought her own personal touch by adding a marble surface and a mirror by VOLK, as well as a Calico wallpaper-lined backdrop for a punch of color and pattern.
final result
I loved the California Closets design process. It was remarkably easy and fool proof to work with Stacy on dividing the space, revising my 3D rendering and creating the perfect closet. Now I take my phone calls in my closet - I never want to leave!
The re-imagined space not only solved Julia’s storage dilemmas, but gave her a newfound organized and multi-functional dressing area to call her own.
