A Modern Media Unit Both Clean-Lined & Classic

What She Wanted
Client Laura Cleary had a beautiful home with a traditional aesthetic, but felt her den/keeping room lacked in terms of storage and style. She’d recently bought a pair of classic Herman Miller Eames lounge chairs, and wanted them to feel at home in a more modern setting. Looking for a streamlined solution that would create a clutter-free space for relaxing and watching TV, she called California Closets Atlanta.
We designed the space around two new Herman Miller Eames lounge chairs. The iconic chair needed a complementary wall unit to complete this total room makeover.
How we did it
Judging the space and function of the room, design consultant Melody Rosen determined a media unit would be the best fit for Laura’s needs. Knowing that Laura wanted a sleek look with ample storage, Melody designed a system heavy on push-to-open cabinetry to cleanly conceal essentials and electronics. Melody also added shelving to display Laura’s pottery and plants, a small bar nook, and contrasting drawers and backing in a wood grain finish to echo the Eames chairs. Custom lights in the shelving also enhanced function while creating a showcase for Laura’s favorite pieces.

Everyone who visits comments on how beautiful the system is and can’t believe it’s California Closets. I really enjoyed the entire design process and the collaborative efforts to work on this space together.
A sleek unit that modernizes the room without compromising the home’s traditional aesthetic. Featuring mixed materials and varying depths, the custom system provides plenty of visual interest while giving Laura the utility she needed.
