WHAT JENNI KAYNE WANTED
Jenni Kayne, founder of the beloved California lifestyle brand, Jenni Kanye Home, and California Closets design consultant Missy Almester started talking about a design for her walk in closet years ago. So when her team set out to create the Jenni Kayne Ranch, the opportunity finally came to be.
The space had originally housed a bathroom and a cramped reach in closet with mirrored doors. Dated carpet covered the dark, dreary space.
Jenni wanted to transform the area into a calm, simple walk in closet with a sense of defined identity for her clothing.
We envisioned a home where form and function met so seamlessly that the breathtaking space would allow for truly effortless living — and when it came time to design an often small but indisputably essential room, we called on the minds behind California Closets.
How California Closets did it
Missy and the team at California Closets Orange County started by considering the design aesthetic of the rest of the home, ensuring anything they created aligned with that. Cohesion with the home was key.
With deep knowledge of Jenni’s design preferences, Missy created a palette for the project and sent a sample box to Jenni so she could touch and feel the various finish options. Jenni was immediately drawn to the neutral tones, so they started with that as the base.
Missy incorporated subtle textures to develop depth in the design instead of leaning on other colors or metals. The result was stunning simplicity.
The design was executed exactly the way I envisioned it — subtle yet stunning. Our heavily textured materials provided a sense of warmth for the space.

Today, the walk in closet is a getaway from the everyday with its neutral, textured palette.
Simple hanging rods display Jenni’s collection of clothes, with many pieces from her line Jenni Kayne. Open symmetrical shelving creates an airy space for everything from shoes to sweaters and soft-close drawers create additional hidden storage.
The overall flow shows how simple functionality can still be elevated and extremely beautiful.
