Award-Winning Organization for a Modern Farmhouse

What They Wanted
Renaissance Homes, a builder of upscale homes, had an exciting opportunity: their first house in Portland’s annual Northwest Natural Street of Dreams. They had everything handled internally from interior design to cabinetry, but when the final plans included a specialized closet, they realized they needed custom storage experts. They called California Closets Portland to create a cohesive, sophisticated solution that would complement the home’s Modern Farmhouse style—all while making an impact during the show.
This closet provides room for every storage need, distinct areas for each person, custom furniture and custom finishes, plus curated lighting and accessories. It’s a truly unique space.
How we did it
In their first meeting, design consultant Laurie Mills carefully reviewed the home’s design style and finishes, and imagined what the hypothetical homeowner would desire in terms of storage. She decided to split the closet into two distinct areas, giving each person their own space and outfitting both with an accessible mix of hanging, shelving, and drawers. Laurie then chose a combination of white and wood grain finishes to complement the home’s Modern Farmhouse style, framing the glass doors and inserts in black to echo the home’s window frames. Two hampers, slanted shoe shelves, jewelry inserts for “his” accessories, and a jewelry drawer and hosiery drawer for “hers” round out the closet’s luxurious feel. Custom lighting in select areas adds an elevated finishing touch.

The best of Modern Farmhouse. White, weathered wood and black accents nod to “farmhouse” while slab faces, glass accents, clean lines, and custom lighting accomplish “modern”, resulting in a statement-making closet design for this award-winning home.
